Why I Write? And Why You Should Too
I started this blog in 2007, right after joining corporate from B-School campus. I was super excited in life for everything that was happening around me. Yes, dreamy age when you think world revolves around you 😏
I started this blog as a way to share my stories, my experiences. 13 Years after it still holds true. When I go through my older posts or sometimes reader posts a comment on older post, I get this feeling,
"Did I write that? Thank god or Glad I wrote it".
It is for this feeling, I write it. And will continue to do so.
While starting the blog obviously there were no readers. At times it felt, whether all this is going in void? I believe no writer is exception to this feeling. What worked for me was, I enjoyed it writing more than thinking whether anyone will read/like it. It is a good way of start. Then you fall for the process of writing. I write because I like to write. 😊
Writing for me is thinking clearly. Monkey mind that keeps chattering has loads to talk until you sit and start writing. How many times while writing a mail for work you hit 'Backspace' key? I am taking this example as I am sure that's the basic writing everyone does. That key is used most because articulating whatever you are thinking and communicating it through words to others is no simple task. Whether it is a question, answer, suggestion, experience or an idea, you want to make it as much clear as possible. Writing makes me think for clarity.
I enjoy connections, conversations I have with others through piece of writing. I meet like minded people, I meet different minded people, I meet people who challenge my thinking, who refine my thinking, and who supports my thinking. Internet has added its magic to our reach.
Learning through writing. I write at Thrivearc and here. Learning that happens through process of writing is phenomenal. Research, references, other blogs, books and everything else I go through adds to my learning. So many times this process has changed my perspective or broadened my perspective on a topic. I write to learn.
There is another thing which I have observed, once I write, a thought, an idea, experience, my learning, feelings it does not repeat. It does not occupy my mind. Maybe there are related thoughts, counter thoughts but not the same ones. Writing cleans my mind of repetitive thoughts, to make a way for new thoughts. Hence I love the process of writing. Writing makes the space for new ideas once I am off with the one's in my head.
I write and I think you should too.
